Termite Bond or Household Pest Control
Does my household pest control cover termites?
Short Answer: No
Long Answer: It’s a bit more complicated.
There is common confusion about termites and what is involved in their treatment. It does seem normal to think that termites are simply another pest and a quick fix with a spray. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Termites are a complicated and potentially expensive problem if they are not dealt with as quickly as possible by a knowledgeable expert. A termite bond is essential to the protection of your home.
Pest control is a lot more than just administering product around your home.
Where to start? WHERE is definitely the question to answer to ensure quality treatment and timely stop to the damage from these insects. Where the product is used is almost as important as which product to use in the first place. There are choices in termite protection and treatment. For bait systems, the idea is to attract the pests to a chosen area in order to come into contact with the bait during feeding. This lets the technician know exactly where the problem is occurring.
Another product that is used is a repellant. As one would assume, this product is keeping the pests away and must be placed outside the home to create that protective barrier needed to care for your home.
As you can probably imagine, using products at the wrong place or the wrong time can have disastrous results. A repellant treatment barrier that is incomplete can cause “breaks” in the protective wall surrounding your home. The pests simply search until they find these holes and walk right in, creating problems for the homeowner. This can even cause a funneling aspect as pests are getting away from the repellant product and find a “safe” haven in your home! Obviously, this is not ideal. A professional knows the WHERE for the treatment product.
In addition, not every product works on every pest. A bait system that is created to attract termites use cellulosic, or wood-based, material to attract the worker termites. A different pest who doesn’t eat wood would not be attracted to such a food source.
This same principle works the other way. A material made to target roaches or ants would likely be ineffective in getting rid of termites. In Cartersville, Canton Termite and Pest Control know that each home must have a personalized plan of attack if we are to keep your home pest-free. The behaviors of termites simply do not match the household ant or roach. There are weaknesses for each invader, and we will use those weaknesses to rid your home of unwanted visitors.
To truly protect your home against household pests AND termites, you ideally need a comprehensive treatment plan where the same company handles both services. While it is possible to have one company for termite and another for pest control, this is not the best option for you as the homeowner. The treatments can best be coordinated and products analyzed to maximize effectiveness for the entire home when we protect you from both. This is most important because of product interaction. Treatments can be less effective if the products do not work together for the best results. An expert knows the correct and safe products to use and the interaction between products.
So, can your household pest control service stop termites? Probably not, and that’s a big issue. Termites are known as one of the most destructive invasive pests homeowners may encounter. The expense and complexity of repairs can cause the bravest of homeowners to tremble. But that doesn’t have to be the case for you. Prevention, prevention, prevention…Having professional care for your home on a preventative level is the best way to prevent expensive repairs and treatments later.
Termites are not the happy houseguest you want to invite. Once there, these guys are not easy to kick out! An out of hand infestation is difficult and frustrating to take in hand. The damage they leave behind can be extensive. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of care.
So if you have household pest control but not a regularly scheduled termite treatment, you may want to think again before assuming your home will stay pest-free. You should strongly consider scheduling an inspection of your home with a pest expert here at Canton Termite to begin the process of protecting your home against termites.
