Every year about this time, at Canton Pest Control, I get this call “My in-laws are coming, and I’ve got to get rid of these roaches!”
That may sound simple enough…call the exterminator and he will wave the magic wand and take the nasty little bugs with him. Unfortunately, the real world isn’t quite that simple.
Most pest infestations happen over a period of weeks or even months, and one fast treatment just cannot complete the job. Sometimes, it even seems to make it worse. On one occasion, I had a customer who called and insisted on a big application the day before a much anticipated Christmas party. The home had not been treated for more than a year, and large, smoky-brown roaches had infested the attic.
I tried to explain to the frantic homeowner that a treatment right now would not give her the results she was hoping for…but would actually drive the little pests down into the home.
This could go on a couple of weeks. Sadly, she would hear none of it and insisted on a major, immediate treatment. The results were unfortunate. We did over time get rid of the infestation; unfortunately, she had quite a few nasty, uninvited guests at her party!
So the moral of the story is don’t wait until the last minute to do your Christmas shopping or call your exterminator.
